A New Career With Plumber Training Courses

Always Fancied Learning a Trade Skill? - Why Not Become a Plumber?

No matter what industries are declining or prospering, we can't do without plumbers. The building industry has clearly slowed down, but work in domestic properties is flourishing. Everybody knows of someone who's had difficulty getting hold of a plumber when they needed one. And then of course as people improve their homes, they need the services of a good plumber to fit the hot and cold water systems etc. So if it's time to make a change, a closer look at a plumbing career could offer everything you need.

Free In-Depth Information

The money will soon start coming in once you've undergone specialised training and built your knowledge.

To get you off to the best start, we've prepared an in-depth downloadable training report that we're making available to you free of charge.

There are many training companies offering plumbing courses in the UK, so you'll find the information really useful when comparing the benefits of each one. We recommend you download the book first and take time to get to grips with its contents. And then return to this page to refer to any of the training companies offering plumbing courses. Convert To Self-Employment

Something that appeals to many adult re-trainers is the concept of being their own boss. In fact almost all of those entering the industry beyond their mid twenties work independently in private houses. Obviously this makes sense when you think of the level of demand in just about every town in the country.

As time goes on, most of your work should come as a result of recommendations from others - always ask for referrals. A training college will cover all your trade skills, but your attitude and manners will be down to you. (After all you never know who's considering your services!) Remembering to treat other people and their homes with respect will pay dividends down the road.

Employed commercial plumbers normally do an eight hour day, weekdays only. But if you're going down the domestic route, those hours should be a tad more flexible. Many working people can't afford to take time off work, so plumbers who will visit outside working hours can often get much better business.

A Good and Secure Income

There's always work available for plumbers and heating engineers. Once you've got yourself trained and certified, you need to get good at promoting yourself. It's fair to say that your days are filled with solving people's problems - if someone's had a burst pipe, or no water for hours, they'll welcome you like a long lost son! No two days are the same - you're not stuck in the same place day in day out, and if you don't want to take a job on, you don't have to!

Plumbers who work for themselves must get to grips with doing quotations that win contracts at the right price. So as well as taking your time into consideration, you'll have to think about all your other costs as well. It's often a bit hit and miss at first, but you'll quickly learn by any mistakes! The best commercial colleges should include training on setting up in business.

Which Is Best For Me?

Both Further Education colleges and private training companies should feature basic plumber training in City & Guilds certifications. Students leaving school will typically go to college full-time followed by work experience and NVQ's. It's more common though for re-trainers to learn their trade part-time so they can still afford to pay their bills! That's why so many private colleges have emerged, which cater for career changers who sometimes only need domestic training.

Even though students in commercial colleges train part-time, they can gain knowledge quickly by focusing on the level of training needed for the domestic work they'll be doing.

Bolt-On Extras

Your basic training will cover aspects such as hot and cold water systems, sanitation, health and safety and central heating. It's also worth thinking about taking some extra courses so you can do more of a job yourself. It's very useful to know more about kitchen or bathroom fitting, or have expertise in gas.

You don't have to take everything at once, but add more skills as you go along. You'll attract a bigger customer base and keep more of the profits for yourself. You'll avoid having to fit your work in with other trades people, and present a cleaner more streamlined result for the householder.

If you're looking to change careers and want reliable, well-paid on-going work, this could well be the right choice for you.
