What Career Options Do I Have?

So we know we need to make a move - but to doing what? It's one thing to know that we need to change, but quite another to be sure the change we have in mind is the right one. What Do I Need To Know?

When you've gained the right knowledge and professional accreditations, you can begin to think about which market sector you'd like to work in. Because all companies need to keep accounts, you're not limited to one particular sector.

Those who work in small to medium sized companies may be in charge of all accounts-related work. On the other hand, those in large ones might handle one small area.

Work is available in both the private and the public sector, and many senior managers and directors have worked their way up through their company's finance department. Yet again some people branch out on their own, and handle the tax and accounting work for a bunch of other businesses.

Will This Type Of Work Suit My Personality?

You'll plainly have to be good at maths if you want an accounting career. Plus you'll need to enjoy working through sometimes long and complex tasks with patience and tolerance - and stick with them until they're concluded. Financial work is suited to assiduous and well organised people.

And obviously you'll need to be able to keep your work confidential, as it's not appropriate to chat to others about the financial affairs of your company.

A whole range of training courses are available for people looking to get into accounts work. There's only one way to whittle it down, and that's with in-depth research.

As we previously mentioned, you won't know enough if you only find one - you'll get to know about things you hadn't previously considered if you familiarise yourself with a good number of trainers.

You might want to be left to work through the syllabus in your own time, or feel more reassured if you have deadlines and classroom sessions.

It will depend on whether you like the idea of a student community, or might feel self-conscious amongst others - plus your availability for college attendance of course.
